This spring, some of the RCM’s most brilliant string players are getting in shape for a unique musical marathon! Inspired by the exploits of RCM Head of Strings Mark Messenger, who ran the 2012 London Marathon in support of RCM students, our Super String Sunday offers up 26 pieces representing the 26 miles of the ultimate athletic challenge. Violinists, violists, cellists, bassists, harpists and guitarists will all come together to entertain with a huge variety of repertoire.
As well as the marathon, there will also be a few sprints, as fiendishly fast fiddlers will compete all day long to see who can give the fastest performance of Paganini’s celebrated Moto Perpetuo. Find out at the end of the day who will be crowned “The Usain Bolt of the Violin”…
This event is free with no ticket required and our doors will be open all day, so feel free to drop in for ten minutes or stay for hours!
