Speaker: Mark Stokes MIET, MBCS, Head of Digital & Electronics Forensic Service (DEFS), Metropolitan Police Service

About this Event:
This evening’s presentation will provide a fascinating insight into digital and electronic forensics, a vital tool in the modern-day battle against crime.

Defining digital and electronics forensics by comparison with cyber crime, our speaker will explain the consequences of the recent convergence between computers and mobile devices. He will also explore the challenges presented by the latest technologies and applications, focussing on Cloud computing and improvements in device security.

The presentation will be illustrated by a brief case example based on the forensic analysis of the October 2010 East Midlands Airport print cartridge bomb.

About the Speaker:
Mark has worked within forensic engineering for over 20 years, in both the public and private sectors. He has regularly given expert testimony in serious crime cases in the areas of Electronics and Communications technology, and is a member of the UK Forensic Science Regulator’s Digital Forensics advisory group.

The Metropolitan Police Digital & Electronics Forensic Service (DEFS) undertakes the forensic examination of computers, mobile phones, and video and audio systems. It deals with over 15,000 cases a year, primarily in Greater London, but also working nationally and internationally.
