Beginners' Course 2012

The London Archers are pleased to announce that arrangements have now been confirmed for our 2012 beginners' course, to be run at our outdoor ground in Linford Christie Stadium.

The course is split into two stages. The first stage is a half-day familiarisation session; the second stage is a six-week course of lessons held on Wednesday evenings. This notice sets out information about the course, including its structure, dates and fees.

We look forward to meeting you and sharing our sport with you.

First stage - Familiarisation Session

We will be holding two half-day sessions on Sunday 27th May, one in the morning, and one in the afternoon. When applying for the course, please state your session preference and we will try to accommodate you.

This first stage is a necessary pre-qualification for the course (i.e. you cannot progress to the in-depth lessons UNLESS you have attended a familiarisation session); it will introduce you to the sport of archery, cover essential safety rules, and teach basic shooting technique.

This will give you an opportunity to have a go at archery without any obligation to proceed to the full course - if you decide that you like archery and do want to join the second stage six-week course (subject to availability), we will ask you to confirm that at the familiarisation session, and the fee for that second stage will then be payable immediately.

Fees for the familiarisation session are payable in advance (fees payable by no later than the closing date - see "Dates" section) by cheque payable to "London Archers" (please do not send cash). Only those who have paid the relevant fee will be allowed to shoot. The fee for the familiarisation session is a non-refundable charge of £15 to cover insurance, equipment hire and facilities.

Second stage - Lessons

Our six in-depth lessons will run weekly, commencing provisionally on Wednesday 20th June at approximately 6.30pm. Throughout the course you will receive constant supervision and our coaches will continue to instruct you so that by the end of the course you should be in a position to shoot independently within the club structure.

Please note: we can only offer a limited number of places on this second stage of the beginners' course, so it may be necessary for us to operate a reserve list. All applicants for the second stage lessons will be notified during the week commencing Monday 28th May whether we are able to offer them a place on the course, or that they have been allocated to the reserve list.

If you decide to continue to stage two, the inclusive fee for the six lessons in the course is £90 payable on the day of the familiarisation session by cheque order. Please note that we will not be taking cash on the day. Payment by electronic transfer is possible (applicants wishing to use this mechanism, please confirm on the day, and note that direct transfers are due within three working days of the familiarisation session). This fee will cover the six lessons, and includes insurance, hire of basic shooting equipment, and for the tuition you will receive from our qualified coaches and experienced senior club members.
