"one of Harrison Birtwistle's best kept secrets" The Guardian
"imaginatively staged and expertly performed" The Telegraph
This summer, The Opera Group presents Bow Down. Originally devised by Sir Harrison Birthwistle and Tony Harrison, Bow Down is a macabre tale of thwarted desire, unnatural betrayal and violent jealousy, where two sisters destroy each over the love of a Suitor.
Evocative of the narratives of Grimm, this ancient murder ballad – of which numerous variants exist in Britain, Scandinavia and America – is reimagined for a contemporary audience presented by seven young performances and directed by Frederic Wake-Walker in his debut for The Opera Group,.
The Opera Group presents this work as part of their ongoing commitment to bring together the best of music, theatre and dance to create intriguing new productions.
This is production is presented in association with London Sinfonietta.
