New Generation Italian Opera Comes To Cantina Del Ponte

This summer, Italian opera will find a new generation of fans as contemporary London restaurant and bar, Cantina Del Ponte, welcomes ‘Opera di Peroni’ to its terrace.

Cantina Del Ponte enjoys an incredible setting on the Thames in the shade of Tower Bridge, one of London’s most iconic landmarks. The venue is known for taking a fresh look at the classics of Italian food and wine – so why not extend that to the classics of Italian opera?

On Thursday July 19th, 2012, Cantina Del Ponte invites guests to enjoy a unique introduction to contemporary immersive opera as Opera di Peroni comes to the Thames. Peroni Nastro Azzurro has collaborated with renowned recording artist and producer Kwes and innovative opera producers GO Opera to create thrilling, cutting edge productions of Italian opera which it will be taking across the UK this summer. The Cantina event will give guests a taster of the full Opera Di Peroni experience as perform classic Italian operas ‘a cappella’ in the bar, restaurant and terrace as they move between the tables, mingling with the guests.

Cantina Del Ponte will serve its full à la carte menu on the evening, so guests can enjoy the likes of lobster linguini, beef carpaccio with Parmesan and wild rocket or cotoletta alla Milanese while enjoying the production and an ice cold bottle of Peroni Nastro Azzurro beer. For its first spring/summer season, Opera di Peroni takes it inspiration from the Arena di Verona season and Italy’s al fresco opera scene to re-imagine key arias from Verdi’s La Traviata.

The night’s performances will be staged on Cantina’s terrace so guests can enjoy their meal while experiencing a sampler of the unique, immersive ‘Arena di Verona’-style atmosphere. Opera di Peroni begins its UK tour in London on July 5th, followed by dates in Birmingham, Glasgow, Liverpool and Manchester.
