Joyzine is delighted to announce our first ever Croydon gig at South London's best kept secret: The Scream Lounge.

We're even more delighted that the night will be headlined by eccentric genius Thomas Truax - one of the most breathtakingly unique performers we've ever had the pleasure to witness in action.

THOMAS TRUAX
For those yet to experience a Truax show, you will not have seen anything like it before - Thomas invents his own instruments, from the legendary Hornicator to percussive sidekick Mother Superior and uses them to craft dark and surreal story songs with the inventiveness of Tom Waits, the passion of Screaming Jay Hawkins and the darkness of a David Lynch or Tim Burton movie.

DEXY (solo)
Emerging in a raucous rage of rock and roll from the bar-rooms and backrooms of London’s underground scene, Dexy And The Hand Me Downs are Americana-scented budding roses of poetic alt-pop as capable of throwing out heart-rattling ballads as they are soaring summer anthems.

More bands TBC shortly

PLUS short films by Tim Burton screened in the bar
AND dirty rock & roll from The Joyzine Radio playlist

JOYZINE
Online music & culture site Joyzine has been chronically the independent music scene for almost a decade, unearthing hidden gems from the South London underground and beyond. Highlights to date have included giving early press & interviews to the likes of Bloc Party, The Rakes, The Long Blondes and Art Brut, and putting on gigs around London including a 5 gig marathon in support of victims of the Asian Tsunami in 2005 which included a sold out date at the 100 Club. More recently, we launched our online radio show on www.croydonradio.com which goes out online every Wednesday from 6-8pm, with listeners having tuned in from such far flung places as Zimbabwe, Russia and Bromley.

SCREAM LOUNGE
South London’s best kept secret – hiding in plain sight in the heart of Croydon, a short walk from East Croydon station, Scream Lounge boasts 2 performance areas both with great sound and separate bar areas (and drinks prices cheaper than any London venue we’ve come across), a rehearsal space and recording studio, a guitar workshop and Whoodoos cafe serving up smoothies and burgers that have become the stuff of legend round these parts.

EASY TRANSPORT FROM CENTRAL LONDON
Direct trains run to East Croydon station from Victoria, London Bridge, Waterloo & Charing Cross taking around 15 minutes, (the same as London Bridge to Camden!) and trains run through the night - you can even get one at 4.30am should you be so inclined.

As well as this, buses link Croydon with Oxford Circus and most parts of South London (Brixton, Clapham, Peckham, Lewisham & more), so you'll be assured of getting home regardless of the hour (and should avoid the Olympic rush too).

And should you wish to drive, there's a 24-hour car park opposite the bar, and nearby parking bays/single yellow lines are free to park on after 5pm.
