Go To Midtown is paying tribute to Indian Independence Day (15th August) by celebrating the people and places around Holborn associated with India’s struggle for independence.
To mark the occasion, Go To Midtown is hosting tours on 14th/15th August to places connected with the architects of independence, including “Father of the Nation” Mahatma Gandhi.
Expert historian and guide, Aly Mir will host the walk, taking in some of Holborn’s most picturesque areas including:
• The site where Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Indian Prime Minister, and Mohammed Ali Jinnah, member of Indian National Congress and Pakistan’s first Governor-General, spoke at a public debate at the end of British rule in India
• A restaurant where Krishna Menon, who led the Indian delegation to the United Nations, and Jawaharlal Nehru both dined
• The London School of Economics which was attended by tenth president of India, Sri K R Narayanan and Feroze Gandhi, the husband of third Prime Minister Indira Gandhi
• The site of a restaurant where Mahatma Gandhi ate
• Lincoln’s Inn Fields where Mohammed Ali Jinnah, a member of the Indian National Congress trained in law
