Celebrated cellist and conductor, Orlando Jopling will be providing an evening of musical entertainment as part of the INSPIRE! Appeal; a campaign to secure at least £1.5 million for essential repairs to the Spire by December 2012 to prevent one of Sir Christopher Wren’s masterpieces, St Bride’s Church, Fleet Street from closing down.

Since 2008 Orlando Jopling has given over 75,000 concerts in parish churches, raising almost £50,000 towards their restoration and upkeep and filling them with the sound of Bach’s magnificent cello suites.

Orlando will be performing at St Bride’s on Thursday 18th October as part of his Cello Pilgrimage and Sir Simon Jenkins, Chairman of the National Trust and author of ‘England’s Thousand Best Churches’, will speak. Drink reception at 6:30pm and the concert starts at 7:00pm.

Often referred to as the ‘Cathedral of Fleet Street’, St Bride’s is the tallest of Sir Christopher Wren’s city churches and has stood for more than 300 years. Over time the spire and stonework have deteriorated, and without the funding needed for crucial repair and conservation work, the church could be forced to close.

Donations raised through INSPIRE! Appeal will help ensure the future of this remarkable Grade I listed building, which is visited seven days a week by an active congregation of residents, local business people and visitors from around the world.
