Graham Coxon, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, Lucy Rose and Hot Chip launched Oxjam 2012 but at its heart Oxjam is a grassroots festival. The highlights are the multi-venue events – the Oxjam Takeovers. There are 9 different areas of London being taken over this year. From October 13th – October 27th the festival will be covering all genres and tastes, all to raise money for the three parts of Oxfam’s work: emergency response, campaigning and development.

The London Takeovers are popping up across the whole city. Starting from down in Croydon, Brixton, Clapham, moving through, Shepherd’s Bush, Shoreditch to Stoke Newington, Islington and Kilburn! Hundreds of local and up and coming artists will be appearing in almost 60 venues. From music comedy group Eccentric to the atmospheric electro pop act NZCA/Lines.

Barry Causton who is organising the Islington Takeover for the second year in a row says:
“We’re really excited to be having the festival in Islington again this year. It’s more than music though. Brilliant bands and so much community support. It’s an incredible feeling to bring so many people together in the fight against poverty. These gigs are all about showing that the best in local music can have a global impact.”

The Oxjam Takeover is a series of city-wide mini-festivals which are also taking place in 35 other locations across the UK, from Aberdeen to Bournemouth. Since 2006, more than 45,000 musicians have played to an audience of more than 900,000 people at over 3,500 Oxjam events, raising in excess of £1.8 million. Oxjam 2012 will take the total past the £2 million mark - enough to provide safe water to over 2 million people, feed 300,000 families or buy 80,000 goats!
