Stratford’s humble shopping centre is at risk of being eclipsed once London’s second Westfield branch opens in Septmeber 2012, just a few metres away. For many years this was Stratford’s shopping hub, with cheap shops, market stalls and high street chains conveniently situated opposite Stratford station, however the boom to the economy it is hoped the Olympics will bring to the local area have meant that the sprawling new development is set to be even larger than its West London predecessor. Westfield will link to Stratford Shopping Centre via a footbridge, therefore providing a mixture of designer and cheaper shops to locals.
