Martin James Bartlett, the 2014 BBC Young Musician of the Year, Freya Goldmark and Sarah Hughes perform Beethoven and Shostakovich.

Martin James Bartlett began learning the piano at the age of six and from the age of eight has been studying at the RCMJD with Emily Jeffrey, with whom he also has lessons at the Purcell School. Martin has also studied bassoon and recorder, and by the time he was twelve, he had achieved Grade 8 Distinction on all three instruments. In March 2012 Martin reached the Keyboard Final of BBC Young Musician of the Year, and this year won the title of BBC Young Musician of the Year. In September Martin will continue his studies as an undergraduate at the RCM where he has been awarded a four-year Foundation Scholarship.

17 year old violinist Freya Goldmark, a pupil of Uppingham School, studies with Maciej Rakowski and for the past 3 years has attended the Royal College of Music Junior Department. She has performed extensively in Europe and Asia as a soloist, giving performances of Vivaldi's Four Seasons in Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpa, Penang and Bangkok and as a guest soloist at the Rachmaninov Institue, Russia performing Mozart's Concerto in D and giving solo recitals. In 2012 she was invited to perform at the Valdres Festival, Norway where her performance of Ravel's Tzigane was broadcast on Norwegian national radio.

Now in her 10th year at the Royal College of Music Junior Department, and taught by Alexander Boyarsky throughout this time, Sarah Hughes has led the cello sections of the String, Sinfonia and Symphony Orchestras. Sarah was awarded the 2012 Ida Mabbett and Freda Dinn String Prize for excellence and, in the same year, represented the RCMJD as a soloist in a London Cello Society performance and masterclass. Sarah was Principal Cellist of the National Children's Orchestra for 6 years and was awarded a Leverhulme Scholarship for outstanding auditions for each year of membership.
