Dickson & Chalmers
How to Make Two Outfits Out of One is a two women experimental chamber opera inspired by the life and work of Franco-American artist, socialite and feminist Niki de Saint Phalle.
Co-created and performed by Jane Dickson (composer, sound artist) and Nic Chalmers, (librettist, performance artist) the work invites the audience inside de Saint Phalle's creative world and seeks to deconstruct the apparatus of opera, a genre that has traditionally played to the male gaze.
The controversial, interdisciplinary work of de Saint Phalle provides a striking, hallucinatory visual and narrative landscape for the question: How do women sound when they are creating their own voice?
