UK Premiere/Rehearsed Reading of FILTH (FAILED IN LONDON, TRY HONG KONG) at The Soho Theatre, 20th October, 7:45pm.

“"We become proud of our title, of the filth that we roll around in…”

What do a Eurasian editor, English banker, inebriate philosopher and a spliff-smoking Australian have in common?

They’re all expats…and they’re all in denial.

The first English language play commissioned and produced by the HK Arts Festival and debuted in March to a sold out run, FILTH (Failed in London, Try Hong Kong) by Jingan Young is a universal story about family, love and betrayal in the ever-changing political landscape of Hong Kong to be staged for the first time as a reading at The Soho Theatre in London this October 20th at 7:45pm.

THE SHOW

1 July 2007, a decade after the 1997 Handover and with China’s presence all-pervasive, how will the expatriates from Hong Kong’s colonial past fit into the picture?

When Joe Losey (Edward Degaetano) abruptly abandons his wife, maid, chauffeur and currently under-renovation penthouse apartment he never figured his social-climbing Eurasian wife Rebecca (Rebecca Yeo) would commit the ultimate betrayal. When he returns a few months later, sparks fly, truths are uncovered, friendships with best friends Ricky (Erick Hayden) and Elaine (Rachel Marquez) are torn apart, a child is lost, trust is gained and love is relearned. A universal story about family, love and betrayal in the ever-changing political landscape of Hong Kong. Also starring Paul Chan as the loveable chauffeur Ah Fung. The character of Fanny, the "part-time" helper with the instagram obsession played by Natasha Phillips.
