The world famous jazz phenomenon, peace activist, Buddhist member and UNESCO Ambassador for Intercultural Dialogue Herbie Hancock has, with UNESCO’s Director General Irina Bokova, designated 30th of April as International Jazz Day to highlight jazz and its diplomatic role in uniting people globally.
To coincide with this momentous date in the jazz calendar, SGI-UK the Buddhist organisation which promotes peace, education and culture, is organising ‘Ode To The Human Spirit’ a special evening of jazz which will be performed by The Human Revolution Orchestra at Union Chapel, Islington on Thursday 30th April. Net proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
The Human Revolution Orchestra is based on a famous Buddhist principal of 'Many in body, one in mind,’ symbolising unity amongst the people and the orchestra is comprised of some of the finest musicians of our generation (Buddhists and non-Buddhists) with special guest the internationally acclaimed award-winning trombonist and composer Robin Eubanks.
