Following the success of last year's inaugural Sounds Sublime Festival, The Sixteen are delighted to present another feast of emerging choral talent, including singers from its young artist programme Genesis Sixteen. Throughout this vibrant day of celebration The Sixteen will showcase a number of talented groups headed for future success, from jazz and a cappella quintets to specialist early music consorts.

Harry Christophers and Eamonn Dougan conduct Genesis Sixteen in the main lunchtime concert at 1.15pm, as this remarkable group nears the end of their year of training with The Sixteen. The programme is now entering its fifth year and can boast many successes, with alumni going on to found new choral groups including Eo Nomine, who will lead a ‘Come & Sing’ workshop and then perform a free early evening concert showcasing 16th century English and Italian madrigals from Monteverdi, Schutz, Gesualdo and Tomkins. The festival day launches with a series of ‘Snapshot Concerts’, where audiences can hear short, informal performances from five new groups: Apollo5, ArtsChoir, Renaissance, Siglo de Oro and The Erebus Ensemble, all in St Martin-in-the-Fields.

A free vocal health workshop will be led by ENT specialist Nick Gibbins, offering singers of all levels advice on how to maintain a healthy voice and how to deal with vocal issues.

Over at The National Gallery, families can join vibrant jazz and classic a cappella vocal group Apollo5 for a lively family singing workshop inspired by Turner’s famous seascapes. Learn rhythms, beatboxing and fun new songs, and create a brand new musical soundscape based on these stunning paintings. At the end of the workshop participants can take part in a mini-concert alongside Apollo5 in the Gallery’s Great Britain Room. Following this workshop, a series of pop-up performances will take place in various rooms around the Gallery.
