Movimientos are back with another spectacular Hootananny night filled with rhythms to keep you dancing all night long! This month we've got the sensational La Chiva Gantiva flying in for a rare UK date bringing their molotov cocktail of Afro-Colombian fuelled funk, rock and rhymes. Joining them will be 10 piece Afro/Latin goodness of 7Suns and the intergalatic funk and outta space james from Yusufla plus DJ Cal Jader spinning the finest Latin riddims and Tropical beats around.

A Carnival-Punk Racket with Ferociously Funky Latin Rhythms

The story of La Chiva Gantiva began in Brussels with a group of Colombian students who started to play percussion together, in order to feel closer to their homeland and its rich musical heritage. Pushed by a desire to assert their roots and reproduce Colombian rhythms of yesteryear, like less well-known rhythms such as the champeta, the chirimia and the mapalé. Using traditional Caribbean instruments such as la tambora, el alegre, el llamador and maracones, and mixing in genres they love rock, afrobeat and funk, creating a truly global sound that they have toured all around the world.

Blending Afro, Latin, Carribean, Funk, Jazz and Rock sounds, 7Suns are a 10 piece outfit making universal music for universal people. Strong melodies and up-tempo rhythms create an intensity. Founding member and composer Jay Furnival draws his eclectic style from the carnival culture that surrounded him growing up on the council estates of Brixton South London.
