From the struggle for worker’s rights, to the exploding urban landscape, hear about working class life in a borough known for its radical socialist roots.

Speakers on the night:

David Rosenberg is an educationalist and author. His book, Rebel Footprints, brings to life the history of social movements in London. From suffragettes to socialists, from chartists to trade unionists: the book invites the reader to step into the footprints of a diverse cast of dedicated fighters for social justice. In his talk, David will explore the role of four significant Battersea activists (John Burns, John Archer, Shapurji Saklatvala, Charlotte Despard) in the fight to secure equal rights for workers.

Professor Mike Savage is head of the Sociology Department at London School of Economics, and co-Director of the LSE’s International Inequalities Institute. Mike has a long standing interest in analysing social stratification and inequality and is author of Social Class in the 21st Century. In his talk Mike will explore the idea of social class and its changing nature and significance in today’s society.
