After 25 years in the industry, John Rocha still manages to pull the cat out the bag every season and produce an intriguing collection; AW11 was no exception. With inspirations ranging from the black lit paintings of Pierre Soulages to the stark landscapes of Iceland, the collection was a combination of rugged textures and subtle tailoring.
The colour palette of predominantly black was spattered with nudes tones and shocks of crimson, in textures ranging from subtle silk georgettes to angora, ponyskin, shearling and tufted yarns. Focus was undoubtedly on shape on volume, with cocoon shapes and bustle-back skirts. My favourite look was a patchwork fur coat over layers of holy knits and ethereal chiffon; with the models hair done up in plaits it added an almost tribal look to the collection.
