London's Best Hangover Cures

Mr Beer Man

Too much to drink on Friday night? Friends all hate you? Strange itching sensation downstairs? Eeesh! Never fear, jump out of bed and shake off the grog with a visit to one of these sure thing hangover cures and start feeling like a million bucks again!

Brixton Beach/London Fields Lido

If your head’s pounding there’s no better way to break through the fog than by stripping off and taking the plunge. Bath’s are good and everything but an outdoor pool is much better when you’re seeing double, so grab your costume and goggles and bomb your way to sobriety.

Rio Cinema/Riverside Studios Double Bill

Exercise is only good for the fuzzy head so if it’s the stomach-based hangover we’re talking then the promise of dimmed lights, plush velvet seats and a tender rom-com double bill is just the remedy. Sadly, the Rio and Riverside Studios both tend toward pairing together edgier cult offerings but they both have a bar so the hair of the dog technique can be incorporated along with some sleep.

Columbia Road Flower Market

Wake up and smell the flowers at Columbia Road on Sunday morning where the mixture of chirpy early birds and the weekly botanical wonderland will provide you with a natural remedy that says feel-good more than half a dozen viewings of Cool Runnings. And, if this middle-class idyll extends from sickly sweet aspiration into real life nausea then settle yourself down with some good quality coffee that’s available up and down the street.

E. Pellicci

Clearly the humble fry up is the only cuisine that can best the roast for curing a hangover and by going classic it’s only right to go all the way with Bethnal Green’s E. Pellicci, one of London’s most famous ‘caf’s’. While it may not be the best sausage, egg, bacon or beans in the city, the grease served up should strike off ill rumblings while you get to grips with the feeling that you’re deeply ensconced within an episode of Eastenders. Of course, if you’re more the Ian Beale type, a little upmarket and such, Chelsea Bun or the Modern Pantry should also satisfy your needs.

The Horse and Groom

If none of the above suggestions threaten to float your boat, or rather sink that hangover, then I don’t know why I bother and perhaps you shouldn’t either. Just carry on going all day at one of the Horse and Groom’s Sunday Sessions, where disco, deep house and a few more drinks should stave off the inevitable. However, by the end of this you’ll be so jaded that you’re forced to halt those wild ways, with a Monday off work the only remedy to avoid a temporary downer that could see you questioning the how’s and why’s of life. Remember, the world is yours. Drink safe, true believers.
