London is Funny's week in gigs (w/c June 1)

London's Comedy Blog

Afternoon all,

Your weekly despatch of the week's best comedy gigs, coming right up ...

Bear in mind that we have fully entered Edinburgh Fringe preview season. That means a lot of clubs have reverted to putting on just two comics who do a 45+ minute set each, as opposed to 4 or 5 comics doing shorter sets. The idea is they comics build their muscles for the all-important Edinburgh Fringe in August.

Anyway, this week's top 5 gigs are:

1) Two quality stand-ups, the highly laid-back rising star Seann Walsh and dapper Glaswegian Stephen Carlin, perform their new Edinburgh shows at the Compass pub in Angel (Tuesday)

2) A good solid club in Putney, Duke's Headliner, has a particularly strong bill this week, with Dan Antopolski and Brett Goldstein among the performers (Wednesday)

3) Holly Walsh off the telly (You Have Been Watching, TNT Show) and good Jewish boy Josh Howie preview their Edinburgh shows at the Washington pub in Camden (Thursday)

4) Raucous monthly one Spank! looks like another good'un in the Albany pub in Regents Park. Sinister musical duo Ginger and Black, Pippa Evans and Matthew Crosby perform. (Friday)

5) Legendary one-liner merchant Milton Jones and the virtually peerless Stewart Lee perform extended sets at the Chuckle Club in Holborn (Saturday)

All these listings and more, and features galore, can be found at www.londonisfunny.com. There will also be a bonus blog appearing here in the next day or two with LiF's June top tips. Meanwhile, don't forget to sign up to our weekly newsletter (see the LiF home page) for competitions for top London gigs, booking alerts and more.

Bye for now,

Paul
