This south London theatre prides itself on delivering an experimental programme of events, often featuring artists who may have been overlooked otherwise. In its very early days the building was used as a sports and training centre by disadvantaged children; this changed when in the 1960s a new manager decided to swap sport for drama. It became a home for experimental theatre, as well as promoting gay, lesbian, women’s, black and Asian theatre. Nowadays Ovalhouse continues to showcase new writing. There are two intimate auditoriums, the largest seating 98, with performances taking place from Tuesday to Saturday. There is also a fully licensed café and bar with wifi on the premises.
