Cool multi-purpose cocktail bar
Tucked conveniently down the road alongside Selfridges (I could spy the huge shoe display there from my position in the bar) it has an impressive mural outside from Pulp Fiction. There was a burly bouncer guarding the dark entrance even though it was 7pm and quite sunny. The place was already quite busy and the large outside area where folk smoke shisha (from £25) was full.
We took a seat on a table against a large dark brown wall bench and looked around. Was I in a scene from Made in Chelsea? There are coppery globe lights on the ceiling, painted horizontal planks of wood on the walls where there are also tea lights sconces. The music was loud and a sort of modern clubby jazz funk. I loved the painting of Dean Martin and the words from one of his most famous drinking quotes. Permission to drink! So we waded through the ostrich skin covered cocktail menu book.
Starting at £8.50 the cocktails are arranged in sections including essential, winter classics, always classic, Apres classics, martinis, big guns, shots, sharing is caring and virgins before moving onto the wines (from £22.50 a bottle). Beers aren’t on the menu but I could see some chaps with bottles of Peroni. We were a bit dismayed that Mojitos (my standard test of a cocktail bar) and daiquiris (my colleague’s favourite) were not on the menu.
She chose a Passionflower (£8) – vanilla vodka, passion fruit juice and gomme. Presented in a martini glass with a slice of passion fruit for decoration she declared it “simple, cool and creamy – one of the best cocktails I’ve ever tasted”. My Sin and Tonic (£9) was sublime – gin, peach schnapps and grapefruit juice in a tall glass which was fresh and fruity and went down a treat. It was a perfect long, refreshing taste of summer.
The music took a mellow and bluesy turn and a DJ starting setting up in the upper bar. We shifted to the virgins. My companion’s Strawberry mix (£6.50) was sweet and quickly consumed even though we both thought it tasted a little like a melted ice lolly. My Apple and Ginger mojito (£6.50) was not only a work of art in a glass (how did he manage to do that delicate and intricate sliced apple twist thing?) but a taste sensation. Yes, it passed my Mojito test.
Turning to the food. The jerk chicken arancini (£6.50) arrived on a slate plate containing a dish of three sizeable rice balls sliced in half with a subtle jerk seasoning and a fiery but not overwhelming side of spicy jerk sauce. The three chilli sliders on a wooden block (£9.50) were a good size but were somewhat messy to eat as the slightly rare steak patties oozed meaty juices and melted cheese and relish. But the triumph, from our perspective, were the three grilled halloumi sliders (£8) on brioche buns with perfectly chargrilled red peppers and harrisa.
The downstairs area – where the loos are also located - is probably three times the size of the upstairs cocktail bar and is primarily used for ping pong apart from Friday and Saturday evenings when there is a DJ and dancing. There are various other events – including live music - through the week and details are posted on a board in the bar.

A bar for après work
The Dirty Vesper is a classic gin martini with olive brine, as well as a plump olive wrapped in cucumber which adds freshness. There’s a robust Negroni and a pleasing Espresso Martini, here made with araku, a rum and coffee liqueur. The Tall Dark & Handsome pairs gin with passion fruit, blackberry and lemon juice for a refreshing result. For those who don’t fancy cocktails there is a small selection of shots and wine too.
In terms of food, the cheeseburger sliders are good, made with medium rare beef and topped with a gherkin and chutney. The mushroom sliders are less exciting, as they are literally just a mushroom in a bun. They’re out of fish and chips (and chips) which is a shame, so instead we go for duck pancakes which are assembled into cones with spring onion, coriander and hoi sin sauce. Fans of olives will love the tubby green olives stuffed with jalapeño peppers too.
There’s a shisha menu which includes the extravagant Cookies & Cream priced at £150, flavoured with tequila coffee liqueur and including two Tiramisu cocktails. Unfortunately every time someone ventures out to the shisha terrace a gust of freezing air fills the venue and customers and staff take it in turns to shut the door.
Après is small and fills up easily, so you’re advised to book a table in advance, particularly during the very popular Happy Hour.

The drinks are delicious, at least from what I've had (they have loads and loads of options). I love the way the bartenders play with everything in the bar from bottles to glasses and ice.
Later the place got full of people dancing on both levels and so did we. Downstairs the atmosphere is crazy.
Lots of fun. We'll be back soon!

Hope I'll be back here soon to try out the rest of their cocktails too as we only had a small range of cocktails that we had to chose from (like every company;s xmas party)
All in all, it was an awesome party.

I love this place but I don't really like it when it's too crowded on Saturdays or Fridays. I guess that's why I'm so happy about the happy hour on Wednesday!
Cool place. Worth visiting!

My friend is a rather fussy cocktail drinker and the very handsome barman made her up a drink using the ingredients she liked- it was SO good! I perhaps had one too many and left my blackberry on the table, to my surprise it was there waiting for me the next day which is a first! (unfortunately I’ve left my phone behind in different places on several occasions!) Thank you!!!
