A worthy place to drop your cash on good beer with good people.

Queen’s Road Peckham can do all it wants to pretend that there’s nothing to see up and down its baron stretches of tarmac but we all know that’s not the case. The side streets filtering off it may be prettier and with their own things going on but the main stretch that connects New Cross to Peckham is gradually building its own gang of establishments that are worth checking out. Beer Rebellion is one such outfit and on a Saturday night we find the place goes from gentle throng to full on buzz between 7pm and 9pm.

Operated by the all-round good people at Late Knights Brewery, the small bar follows their familiar aesthetic, which amounts to stripping it all back and basking in the modern lust for all things exposed concrete, metal and wood. It’s basic but it works. An ultra social bar, staff interact with the customers beyond the necessary “what can I get you” which is just as well when the range of beers requires a little guidance. Grabbing our own glasses from the assorted range of tankards, stemmed goblets and straight up pints (that’s right, you get to choose your own vessel) the choice of beverage takes in anything from the Late knights own Rye IPA (excellent) to a collection of six ales from kegs that can be viewed in the glass walled ‘cellar’ room next door. There’s no food but you can bring in your own. A worthy place to drop your cash on good beer with good people.
