Then don't follow the people who write boring stuff like that. Simple.

Cause of Twitter I've found out about events and things. Cause of Twitter I got tickets to that radio show the other week and got to speak to David Mitchell. Is only as pointless as other Internet things like blogs, social networks and forums.

I think he means, what's the point in writing your day to day events? Or minute by minute it seems... I don't really know much about Twitter, I've only seen one persons profile and my response was, "is that it?". But these things are addictive, aren't they?

What happened to good old fashioned, person to person conversation? In a few years no one will be able to hold a conversation in person. Have to go via internet to do it. Lol.

ARGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

Agreed there's no point updating with boring things like what you had for breafast, etc. But the point of Twitter is meant to be a 'micro blog' not a silly diary.

But I think of course we can hold a conversation in person with the development of online social stuff.

Surely this encourages talking and being aware of other people with differing views, being able to deal with those differences, etc. I think being able to talk to people online is a kind of practice for real life.

There are people who I have met online from across the world. Without the Internet, I wouldn't have met them. Or been inclined to speak to strangers in real life. I wouldn't be speaking to you guys about this, for example.

Wee! I think I prefer Twitter to other online things. Am bored of Facebook, and reading my friend's updates that are there to impress or get questions (e.g. Hannah Boyce is thinking of a certain special someone' - who cares?!) but Twitter, I'm talking to strangers. And finding people with similar interests etc. I likes Twitter :D

Real life conversations aren't that great Aly - you can't use smilies, you can't say what you actually think and you can't just switch off and do something else without the other person thinking you're rude.

I love talking online! I wouldn't be on here if I didn't. I'm not speaking for anyone else when I say this, this is just how I feel, but I wouldn't want to become unsociable with friends and family around me right now due to constant interraction with people whom I don't really know over the internet. It's probably just something my boyfriend said, about getting so into interracting with strangers that you lose sight of the people who are most important to you. It's almost like celebs. How some of them thrive of the attention they get from fans, from people who they don't know. I'm not sayin online conversation and getting to know people is wrong. Of course it's not! Like I said, I love it. I really enjoy it. I just hope I remember to give that same attention to the people who mean the most to me.

I don't really agree that talking online with strangers helps you become more confident with folk on the street. It can have the opposite effect. Like AIL have just said, you can switch off when you are online without appearing 'rude'. You can't really do that face to face. So what if you get stuck? What if you just can't handle real life interraction? I dunno. I'm thinking way in the future of what could happen. I think moderation, like all things, is good. After all, past generations have gotten on fine with human interraction, without needing a screen infront of them.

AIL, you should set up a Twitter account - it's getting more popular by the day.

I will probably join it when my acting career is on the role, so folk or 'fans' or 'followers' can be kept updated with what I'm doing :)
