Best way to get autographs at premieres!

Actually this is very hard, its more of a "heres what I've found works over time" thread as I still struggle sometimes!

What to take?

Less is more! Some people will sign lots, most wont! You're lucky if you can get more than 2 from someone, so sometimes pick your 4 or 5 most favourite photos/dvds etc and work with those.

Folders?

Everyone has their own preferences. Popular choices are clipboard folders you can hold the things down with and flip up when needed. Some use envelopes as they are easy to reach into. Some had hard folders which clip open. I use a flip over divider folder so each person I have items for is seperate.

Where can I get photos?

The Cinema Store on St Martins Lane sells them, but for an expensive £3.95. Most people find pictures online and get them printed at any of the numerous online and instore digital photo labs. Be careful, check the pictures are in the public domain, and you are not breaking laws by copying them!

Where should I stand?

Ahh. The grass will always be greener no matter where you stand! Popular choices are in front of the cinema doors, and where the cars stop. Personally I prefer where the cars stop, you can get the stars' attention quickly there! This can backfire when they get dragged off to do press interviews and never come back however! At most cinemas I find opposite the is poor, often times they will sign before press, do the interviews, and sign after the press, skipping you out!

Engage the star in conversation!

So many people just blandly stand there! A quick 'hello', or 'I love this film', or 'you look nice in that dress/suit' goes a long way! Some stars obviously will just ignore it or say thanks and move on, but some do linger and have a quick reply to you. This is a nicer meeting and enables you to say 'Oh could you also sign these, Im a big fan' and they often will!

Unique items!

Not always possible, but if you like a more cult film or an older one they have been in it often catches the eye. For example at Iron Man I had a picture of Robert Downey Jr from A Scanner Darkly, and he was walking past the whole area I was in, but stopped as he said "Oh, A Scanner Darkly, I love that film" and signed my pic! In a sea of Harry Potter photos, or the like, something different can stand out!

Absolutely. Thats going to be very offputting for people and they wont want to come near someone making lots of noise.

Well 4 me, if the prem is at Big Odeon, then i,am outside Capital Radio cos that,s where i get most of the autograph fm. But if it,s at The Empire or Vue then i,ll stand at the side where the car stops that,s normanly a gd choice also.

I,ve been doing this hobbie 4 a while, it,s a good indeal 4 me, cos i,ve met alot of friends who i met thr there.

I keep my pics in sports bag.

You never know when you stand where the cars stop. I have a friend that always stands directly opposite the cinema doors. He always gets autographs and he's been going to premieres for over 10 years.. He also gets to see every one walk the red carpet and takes killer photographs because often the paps are right at the end. He syas it is the best place to stand so that's where I will go from now on.

There isn't a best place to stand. It's all down to luck but the cinema doors have the most luck. Plus you get to see everyone walk the red carpet and enter the cinema. If you stand where the cars stop it can be hit and miss. But as I said there is no best place.

Plus it doesn't matter what time you get there. Case in point: Public Enemies. The people that waited the longest from midnight to 10am waited the longest to meet Johnny Depp as he signed for everyone else [including those that turned up at 5pm] first. Johnny came over for us mad fans around 8pm.

Premieres are strange and fun events [mostly] but anything can happen and don't bank on meeting all the stars or getting all the autographs etc, because you could wait all day and come home with nothing. Nothing is guaranteed.

Yeah I drew Christian Bale, and as He was signing near me and walking past whilst signing, I was mobbed by people (you can hear me shout at someone to get off my head in the video I took), and my drawings was covered by people's books and papers and he didn't sign it.

thats why i liked the sweeney todd premiere because they closed the garden off, which meant that people who turned up at 5pm (usually people just strolling past) didn't get to go in there.
