Me and my family always eat at Ikkyusan and we always get value for money. The food is great and the price is descent. Of course you can get better japanese food around london like shimo and benihana but then you will also have to pay more. We probably eaten at Ikkyusan for around 50 times now. Always go for tempura, california maki, sushi, surf and turf bento box and their don sets.

I have never tried their Thai menu so cannot really comment on it.

For those who do not like their Japanese selection maybe you are not used to eating Japanese and only know english-japanese food and not proper japanese.

Spent the day in London and headed her for lunch with 2 friends before a concert. The decour and furnishings I found very impressive, and the initial greeting we got was very pleasant. The food seemed reasonably priced with a lot of option, and I went for the teriyaki salmon and chicken bento in the end. The food was enjoyable, but nothing to rave about. Our waitress seemed a kind of cold, but efficient - she answered our questions about the food to the best of her ability, although once the food was served she never checked up on us again, and after many attempts to subtly get her attention for the bill we eventually had to get up from the table to ask manually. Overall I would return, mainly because I love Japanese food, and would recommend it to anyone who fancied a spur of the moment meal. But for special occassions I'm sure there are better places around.

when i was eating in ikkyusan restaurant i was extremely pleased with the food and service, everything was planned and set up the way a proper restaurant should be. the atmosphere was so relaxed you could calm a lama down in there. there was plenty of space so i didnt feel like a barnacle sitting in a tight place. the staff were so friendly and made me laugh like a monkey arm. in total a perfect restaurant. p.s the only downside was i got a splinter off the bamboo.

ikkyusan is possibly the best japanese restuarant ive ever placed my cockney feet in. the service isnt amazingly good but alot better than most places in china town. the quality of food is brillent for the money and the portions are extremely generous. the atmostphere is distintively modern yet also had a tradtional japanese theme to it.

I went to the second floor Hot Pot restaurant and it is actually the best one yet in London (i've tried others) but note in London, it obviously doesn't realy compare to the real thing in China. It is slightly expensive and I wouldn't really recommend the £25 buffet.

I went there the first time with my friend and tried the £25 buffet. I didn't realise that they would charge extra £5 for all uneaten food at the end of my meal. Plus they charge 10% service charge on top of that...overall pretty expensive but then it's also unfortunately pretty standard in chinatown restaurants.

Yes, there are also those unitemised billing but you can always ask for an itemised billing.

I found the service ok - it's not fantastic but then they are pretty quick when you need something and they certainly aren't rude.

After that - we've just got for the a la carte menu and it usually comes out at £40ish.

My experience with this place everytime, which has been about 3 in the last two months, has always been pretty good. The food i think is better then OK, especially for the price you pay and the selection is great, so much to choose from we're always spoilt for choice. I must say I've never tried the buffet, so can't comment on that, however my friends really like it here and we should be heading back this weekend. The small booths at the back make the setting ideal for intimate evenings, espeically if your on a moderate budget, i.e. 3 people can cost anything from 35 - 60 depending how much you fancy eating. I would recommend for sure for lunch time especially!!

Having eaten there, I have to say that the food is on par with the Mr Wu crowd. It is edible, but there are better place to eat on that street. Don't be fooled by the decor, it is neither Japanese or Thai and should not be listed as Japanese. It caters for people who don't care about quality. Once come, never return.

I have tried now 3 times to experience the all-you-can eat buffet advertised on their outside posted menu. They advertise that it is Friday, Sunday and Monday. I have tried now all three days and each time; "because it was busy" the buffet was not on. Trying to call ahead gets you nowhere as I experienced. "Yes, we have buffet today, unless it gets busy." No way to tell when exactly any of these evenings it will not be busy. Not worth the chance. Buffet is just a luring ploy and I do not like being deceived no matter how good the food is.

And as for you Mr Woo, I’ve had the buffet a number of times and have always been warned that it may take maybe 30-40min wait from my sushi to my a la carte choices as it is a busy time. I personally think that it is quite reasonable that you have to wait for your a la carte choices to arrive before you can repeat your order of sushi as I was told that a lot of food gets wasted by greedy people that over order. And on one occasion I had to wait about 30mins for my food but during the 30mins I was offered a repeat of sushi which I thought was very kind.

As for the previous 2 reviews you guys were proberly annoying customers and come on.. Miss Penn if u knew it was the wrong dish then why eat it, im sure if you didnt touch it they would of been more than happy to have exchanged it for you. its just like saying you go to a shop and you get the wrong thing, but you just thought you'll try it and see wether you like it or not and decide you dont and ask for a refund or exchange. and what are they going to say to you, no you cant cause you've already opened or tryed it. People these days..think realistically

I'm really appalled by the reviews given which is totally untrue. I’m a regular customer at ikkyusan and the service and food has always been 101%. The waitresses are friendly (especially one called bobo) and are always there to help and as for the food, I personally think it is one of the best down china town. I am a sushi fanatic and I personally think ikkyusan is one of the best in providing fresh and quality fish for the customers. The sushi chefs are friendly and they greet you when you enter and leave making you feel like VIP.

My friends and I went to Ikkyusan to celebrate a special occasion yesterday.
We opted to choose their buffet deal for £13.50 pp, which included free flow of sushi and a choice of a la carte selection. After we finished our initial order of sushi, we waited for an hour for our a la carte order to arrive. It did not arrive and we wanted to order more sushi as we were very hungry. However, the staff refused to let us order because we havent "finished" our a la carte order. They told us we could either pay up and leave, or simply continue waiting indefinitely.
The food was mediocre and service appalling. The experience spoiled our celebrations plans and there are definitely better restauran

I had dinner at Ikkyusan last night with friends. The experience was ruined for me when I received the wrong meal. Mistakes happen so this wouldn't usually cause too much pain but the problem I have is with the grief I got from the waitress when I told her I had the wrong meal.

I had actually tried a mouthful of the dish to test how hot it was as I was considering eating it anyway. This seemed to be more problematic for the waitress who said she couldn't take the meal back because of this. It was also going to take 20 mins to get the correct meal so in the end I ended up with a bowl of rice for dinner and I had to scavenge of my friends for the rest.

Not impressed.
