I don’t usually post restaurant reviews but really have to disagree with the last comment. The Lane is a lovely restaurant and I have always been really pleased with the food and the service there. I am not sure I count as a regular but I go there about every two or three months when I meet up with a friend in the Nightingale (a really lovely pub if you have never been there) for a drink. We used to go to the Purbani (near the George in Wanstead High Street) but then realised there was a much better restaurant just across the road.

looked forward to this as a friend recommended. extremely disappointed. three of us went as a family. chick tikka korai supposed to be 'medium' chilli hotness. no hotness at all and worst of all, no flavour! husband said his chicken shashlik only just acceptable. son's chicken tikka jalfrezi hot enough but not enough flavour. starters - mine was fine - theirs was not enough flavour. tarka dahl definitely out of a tin. piste de resistance was at 9.30pm we are the only ones left with half pints of lager still to drink... they open the door and leave it open!!! how rude. they hadn't even offered us the dessert menu! talk about 'hint hint.. der..we just wanted to finish our drink! decided no tip after that i'm afraid. decide to tell them about this as we leave (learning curve!). most decent restaurants once told of a problem would be agreeing and apologetic... er no. they say they always open the door and leave it open and they have a heater and could not understand our problem and definitely did not want to listen!!! three staff spoken with at the door trying to suggest they change their way re this bit but they're attitude spoke reams! they don't deserve to run a restaurant if they can't treat customers with respect. they ruined our evening out big time and it was mother's day as well! goodbye The Lane.. never to be visited again by us!

This is a little gem for a number of reasons which is why I am a regular visitor! The food is great and the service is always very good. On a number of ocassions my party has been offered complimentary drinks for no reason other than good will. Then you have the pub over the road which is a cracker itself! Well worth a visit!

This restaurant is a real backstreet find! An absolute pearl. The food is excellent, but you need to book as it's not very big and fills up quickly. Service is subtle and friendly and although the prices are a little higher than some of the competition the quality of the food is worth it.
