Eat at this upmarket restaurant on the water

River dining with pedigree

Where: Caravel

London has good form when it comes to plonking amenities on water - alongside a handful of decent restaurants on narrowboats there is a bookshop and a cheese-focused eatery floating on the capital's canals. The latest is Caraval, which comes with a decent CV - the brothers behind it have previously worked at Quo Vadis, Rochelle Canteen and Colebrooke Row.

There is a modern European menu that angles towards the fancy with things like potato rosti with sour cream and caviar, and broadbean and pea gnocchi with truffles, and its warm romantic vibe makes it an ideal spot for dinner dates.
