Where: Smokehouse
It's a bold claim to say Smokehouse in Islington offers the best barbecued food in the city, but we're going there. It opened in 2013 as the UK's only restaurant to use real wood - English oak, to be precise - which aficionados will know can do wonders in terms of flavour. Over the years the menu has drawn from global influences, with nods to Korean and Latin American bbq dishes as well as British and European. It's not all meat either, as vegetables have a starring role here too (smoked aubergine, wood roasted padron peppers).
The venue has the feel of a cosy country pub complete with fireplace, and there's a delightful terrace surrounded by shrubbery for warm days.
