Kensington Palace was first purchased as a home for William III and Mary II in the late 17th century, and is where Mary, Queen Victoria and other successive royals have lived. During a visit you can wander around rooms onced used by Princess Victoria, and the Dress Collection which includes outfits that once belonged to the late Princess Diana.
Elsewhere are the gardens, which famously include the Serpentine Gallery, the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Statue, and the Japanese-inspired Kyoto Gardens (complete with brightly coloured koi carp). Don't miss the absurdly lavish King’s Staircase leading up to the State Apartments, the walls of which are painted with vivid scenes of George I's court. Fun fact: Kensington Palace is where Queen Victoria was born.
