Visit London's historical snuff mills

Become a snuff buff
This must try is connected to: Morden Hall Park

Morden Hall and its surrounding park have existed since the 1700s, first owned by the Abbey of Westminster. For at least a couple of hundred years,  the wealth of the estate came from its snuff mills, which produced almost 3,000 kilos of the powder each month. At the time snuff was popular among London's elite, who would sniff the fine tobacco powder for a quick nicotine buzz.

Although the mills are closed to the public at the moment you can wander around them, crossing the bridge over the River Wandle, the water of which used to power the mills.

Other things to see in the park include the the wetland habitat, pretty rose gardens dating back to the Edwardian era, the garden centre and the second hand bookshop.
