A thrilling HBO drama series in the mould of The Killing and The Bridge.
In a small coal mining village the residents face the difficult choice of whether to sell their homes and land to a powerful coal company and move on or stay put and face an uncertain future. When strange events start occurring and the mayor’s daughter Míša goes missing, the whole village embarks on a search only to find long-buried truths and secrets. Beautifully shot and impeccably acted particularly by Stivínová in the role of an ambitious mayor, this was the pinnacle of 2016 Czech filmmaking.
All three episodes will be screened as an exclusive UK Premiere. FOLLOWED BY Q&A with director Alice Nellis (tbc).
'The show's gritty social realism provides an expansive view of conflicts — ones of class, gender, and heritage — that will resonate powerfully long after the final frame.'
