About the event

This Good Friday, Union Chapel will host a night full of music, poetry and dance that both examines and questions the future for our planet. Dark Sacred Nights, named after the lyric in Louis Armstrong’s “What Wonderful World”, will see a diverse range of artists explore conservation issues and themes of creation in their performances.

Shining a light on the climate change crisis, each artist will contribute to the conversation about the state of our environment in their own unique way. Headlining the event, Shalom Chorale (2018 BBC Gospel Choir of the Year) will bring their message of peace, hope and joy. The Ben Comeau Ensemble (led by award winning composer, pianist and organist Ben Comeau), will present a new work inspired by the recent student climate change marches, and Claudina Edwards (who has performed extensively with the London International Gospel Choir) will explore the sense of hopelessness that can arise when faced by challenges on a global scale.

The evening will also include performances from Masashi Fujimoto (Host of the entertainment programme ‘Banzai’), Anna-Liisa Donatella (Founder of SoulMuse Vocal Agency & Academy), Akeim Toussaint Buck (who specialises in dance theatre, beatbox, spoken word and song) and Luke Simpkins (who, as a member of The Days, supported the likes of Paolo Nutini and Supergrass).

Union Chapel Minister, Vaughan Jones, describes the event as, “a life affirming performance which will leave you inspired and strengthened by its realistic but hopeful message. I am very excited, once again, that the Chapel has brought together such a talented group of performers for this important day.”
