As the first prize winner of the Royal College of Music String Quartet Competition, the Helen Just & Susan Connell Prize and the Sacconi Prize, the Son Quartet has been chosen to represent their college at the Inter-collegiate String Quartet Competition in Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music. The players are all recipients of scholarships and awards and have individually won prizes in international competitions and played with various orchestras. They regularly receive lessons from Mark Messenger and have participated in masterclasses with members of the Chilingirian, Janaček and the Sacconi Quartets.

Trio Incendia was formed in 2012, founded by scholars from the Royal College of Music, London. Trio Incendia have regular coaching from Mark Messenger, Head of Strings at RCM. They perform regularly at concerts in the RCM and around the UK.
