.with Donald Edwards (drums) and Orlando LeFleming (bass) has subtly, almost methodically, developed into one of the most adventurous outfits in jazz as heard on their new release, Joey Calderazzo Trio Live. But thats not surprising given its leaders pedigree. Calderazzo has burned a celebrated path forward as a composer and accompanist (and best friend) with arguably the two most important tenor saxophonists of the past 40 years. First, with the greatly missed Michael Brecker (1987-2005), and currently as a member of Branford Marsalis great quartet (1999-present). Calderazzo has recorded a total of nine solo and trio records, garnered Grammy Awards and various honorees. Gareth Williams won the piano category at the 2013 British Jazz Awards and his career is going from strength to strength.
Over the last twelve months he has toured with Claire Martin and Jerry Bergonzi among others as well as his own projects (look out for a new album on Linn Records this year).
Joey and Gareth have known each other for years and are looking forward to conjoining their fiery piano skills around some choice swinging standards and some lesser-known works of jazz greats Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock and McCoy Tyner. Expect full use of both Steinways!
