Some comedians will do anything to write a new show. In 2012, Carey Marx decided that, in order to have a great Fringe show the following year, he would do something simple, like have a heart attack. But he survived, and the aftereffect is that it gave Carey further material to twist into this darkly shocking hour of playful humour. After all, this is a laughing matter, and the perfect idea for a comedy show.

Intensive Carey delves into the repercussions of a life-changing experience. What happens when something so profound impacts your life? On hearing his doctor’s orders (“Mr Marx, if you have another heart attack, go immediately to a hospital. Do not, I repeat, do not consider masturbating”), Carey was forced to review some bad decisions in life. This show is about hospitals, a blanket, monsters and an empty drawer. It's about people, animals and things. It's about an hour. Witness the survival of the un-fittest.

The only comic to win the New Zealand Comedy Festival Best International Show Award twice, Carey has a natural ability to find joy in the most unexpected places and has consequently written and performed nine highly acclaimed solo shows. A regular favourite at London’s Comedy Store as well as various other comedy clubs across the country, he can often be seen compering Reading, Leeds and Glastonbury festivals. He has appeared on various TV programmes including The Stand Up Show (BBC1), Loose Women (ITV), BBC Breakfast (BBC1), Edinburgh Live (BBC3) and Slam (Channel 4), written for The Now Show and Bigipedia (BBC Radio 4) and has published two novels.
