In 1974, the Poet Laureate, Sir John Betjeman, became an unlikely pop star, recording is verse to music by Jim Parker of the LP 'Banana Blush'. It became a cult classic and a favourite among icons including Jarvis Cocker and Suggs.
In a very special performance, St Martin-in-the-Fields present the most complete live performance of 'Banana Blush' for over 30 years. It will be paired with another playful interweaving of words and music, 'Façade' - Dame Edith Sitwell's eccentric poetry set to music by William Walton.
Narrated by BBC Radio 4 regulars Carole Boyd (The Archers) and Zeb Soanes (The News Quiz), with accompaniment from St Martin's Players.
