To celebrate International Women’s History Month, we are focusing our weekend tours on women pirates. Historically, women were not allowed to remain on ships once they had set sail as it was thought to bring bad luck but some were not deterred by this.

Come and find out more about these fearless women:

Sayyida al Hurra who was born into a noble family but ended up becoming leader of the pirates in the western Mediterranean;

Gráinne Ní Mháille who was known as the Pirate Queen of Ireland;

Mary Read and Anne Bonny who would fight side by side wielding a machete and pistol in either hand; and

Ching Shih who was arguably the most successful and ruthless pirate of all time. It is said that if you deserted one of her crews and were caught, she would cut off your ear and make you wear it as a necklace!

Once the tour is finished you are welcome to stay aboard and explore the ship.

Tours are included in the admission price and will last 45 minutes.

Tours are suitable for all ages.
