Paddington Recreation Ground, located near Maida Vale, is the largest park in the borough of Westminster, as well as being the oldest athletic ground of its kind in the city. It was opened in 1888, during an economic slump, as a means to provide employment to around 50 men who were tasked with laying out the land and putting up fences.
It is home to a fitness centre, tennis court, football pitch, bowling greens, athletics track and basketball and netball court. Additionally hurdles, monkey bars, trapeze swings and chin up bars are dotted around the park to make your run more interesting. Fees apply to use these facilities.
The grounds are also considered important by nature conservationists. The grassy area is around 100 metres long, there is a children’s play area and even dogs have their own dedicated exercise spot. Refreshments are provided in the café, which opens for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
