Relaxed, cosy pub in close proximity to the City

The Slaughtered Lamb is positioned firmly on the map as a place for workers in the area to quench their thirst of an evening as well as for pre-show Barbican attendees.

Décor is simple but with a touch of Eastern Berlin about it thanks to dark walls, a red ceiling, standing lampshades and a few armchairs scattered around. Despite its large size it gets full to the brim most nights with after-work drinkers who spill out onto the pavement, pint in hand.

The downstairs room is a little more kitsch; with another bar and seating to lounge around on. It also doubles up as a live music venue courtesy of the Electroacoustic Club from Monday to Wednesday. The focus is on folk and acoustic music, however Saturday nights are a little different when the basement pumps out dubious 80s cheesy music.

On the menu are hearty dishes of fish and chips, homemade pies and sausages with mash, all priced around £8. The selection of beers is a little out of the ordinary compared to what most pubs offer, with Camden Hells lager, wheat beers and Red Stripe.

Staff are friendly and there is a definite buzz in the air, yet The Slaughtered Lamb is far more relaxed than many of the city bars further down the road – it’s just as common to see someone nestled in a sofa alone reading a paper as chattering groups of friends. It’s no wonder people flock here once the clock strikes five.

The Slaughtered Lamb is quite hit and miss but I'd suggest that it's mostly hit. You can spend a pretty good night here. Great beers and good food. Followed by some conversation on one of the big tables. Bar for a jagerbomb, then downstairs to dance in the basement lounge.

The folk nights every Monday are always good too.

They have got a simple menu that is really value for money. Go on Sunday for Roast, it's so good!

This venue has the rudest staff in London. On a recent visit they decided to start putting chairs up on the tables at 10.20 -there were 20 people in the pub at this time and before 11 they told us they were shutting and we could have plastic glasses and take our drinks with us. When I asked why they were shutting they said they wanted to go home early, when I queried drinking up time they said come back with your lawyers.
I won't be coming back and I urge you not to go there at all.
