Art is supposed to make people talk and think. It is not just something pretty to look at and it isn't just art for art's sake. Some of it is ridiculous to one person but makes sense to another. I think art is serving it's purpose. It's making you all talk.

i (kind of) agree lol

i think art should be used to make a statement (good or bad) seeing as people respond more to images than they do words.

i am sorry to disagree with u elliex - but art is not in the eye of the beholder.

beauty is in the eye of the beholder. art is only beautiful if it actually depicts something beautiful - like a scene or a person or something along those lines.

rubbish like a glass with water called an oak tree is not beauty in the eye of the beholder - its lack of eyes to see whats actually there.

I agree with you totally im just asuming people know what art acctually is and not stupid stuff like the glass of water thing the "art" i like is beautiful in my opinion you cant tell people what to think is beautiful therefore art is in the eye of the beholder should we say!

but seriously - people who like that oak tree/gass in water thing - must've been dropped down SEVERAL staircases when they were a baby - probably a long line of family tradition dorpping them all down staircases - who knows

Eh? I mean a piece of art is something that doesn't serve any other purpose than to just be that piece of art. Like for instance, a car can't be art as it serves the purpose of transportation. Does that make sense?

This is just what I have heard anyway, not strictly my opinion. Although it is interesting.


yes i agree with the lack-of-purpsoe of art to be art - but what i mean is - they dont actually teach u that specific fact in art.

and the car thing - total sense. - yet u still get twits doing art on cars or building weird cars as art.

and it makes total sense what u say. and i agree this is a very interesting as it can be interpreted so many ways and its like the song that never ends . . .

u cant use art is the "ones man trash is another mans treasure" to define it. because that ones mans trash is STILL trash at the end of the day - the other man is so mentally not-right that he thinks its treasure.

I like a lot of tribal art, and ancient stuff. Is kind of funny someone mentioned the skull covered with crystals, when there's a human skull in the British musem that the Aztecs decorated with stones and things (and used as a mask - ugh) and that looks amazing, and I would call it art.

The whole world is a canvas, and we are adding to it day by day, good and bad. But what immediatly comes to mind when I think of Art is a picture/painting of somesort. One that moves/effects me in someway. But everyone has their own opinions and Ellie is right in someway when she says art is basically depicted by the eye of the beholder. Just because somebody likes a can of beans placed on a frisbee doesn't mean that they are mentally retarded. It could mean something to the artiste.
